Abstract

The main objective of this study is to examine the relationship between Syrian refugees and local residents who have migrated to Siirt city and have temporary protection status in the city, to determine the level of the relationship between asylum seekers and residents, and to reveal where they are at in terms of integration. Although integration may seem like a unilateral process, it is actually a phenomenon shaped by the mutual efforts of both local people and asylum seekers. Siirt, which is the subject of the research, is located in the Tigris Section of the SoutheastErn Anatolia Region. In general, the research area is located between the plateau area in the SoutheastErn Anatolia Region and the mountainous area in the Eastern Anatolia Region. The face measurement of Siirt province is approximately 284 km² In its most general sense, migration can be defined as mandatory or voluntary relocation or spatial mobility processes carried out by individuals and societies for political, natural, economic, social, ethnic and religious reasons. Migration is a phenomenon that, beyond a unilateral process of spatial change, has multifaceted repercussions in the socio-spatial fabric due to economic and cultural interaction, changes in social statuses and its consequences. With the spread of the uprisings/social events that began as the Arab Spring to Syria, Turkey met the first group of migrants from Syria in April 2011 and the number of asylum seekers arriving in Turkey from Syria has continued to increase since then. Especially in border cities, centers were set up to house asylum seekers and migrants were kept there in the first place. However, Syrian refugees are now scattered throughout Turkey.
