Abstract

With the increase in participation every day, there are differences between the design process steps formed by the international design competitions that come into our lives more and more and the traditional design process models existing in the literature. In this study, A' Design Award & Competition was chosen to compare the traditional design processes with the design process emerging in international design competitions where brands, companies, designers, academics and design offices show great interest. In line with the analyzes made, similar and different points were revealed in the design process steps. With the research, it is revealed that the design competition process, which begins with the individual decision process and presentation and ends with the announcement of the results in the last step, differs from the traditional design processes, while the designer brings together the data and requirements in all his decisions in the design process and presents a creative proposal. In addition, while the idea of design exhibition/competition, which started with the Great Exhibition in 1851 and whose aim was to stimulate the industry and economy, aiming to enlighten the public about the value of design, the process of today's design has been opened to discussion that the presentation gains as much importance as the design idea, and most importantly, the new focal point is the product and the idea itself.
